Our Vision is to see 'God’s Kingdom come.’
How did we come up with that you might ask?
Well as Christians we are Jesus followers and he taught his disciples to pray and in one instance he gave them an example of how/what to pray-this is often referred to as the 'Lord's Prayer'
He began the prayer with a cry to God his Father and said ‘Let your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:10
Elswhere he taught that we should ‘Seek first the Kingdom of God' Matthew 6:33
Jesus taught that the kingdom comes in two ways:-
1.The kingdom comes when individuals receive through faith in Jesus, an inward experience of transformation.
Jesus said ‘The coming of the Kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, nor will people say, ‘here it is’ or ‘there it is’, because the Kingdom of God is within you.' Luke 17:21
Our vision is to see lives transformed by becoming Christians and in that sense, the kingdom is ‘unobservable’ but clearly what goes on inside will come out!
2. Jesus brought in the Kingdom that is the rule, power and the authority of God from heaven to the earth, and we believe he has called us as believers to do the same.
He told his disciples to ‘Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation' Matthew 28:18 and he said signs will follow those who believe … they shall heal the sick, raise the dead, cast out demons, cleanse the leper.’ Matthew 10:8
Because of that transformation, these people were able to 'perform' incredible acts eg miracles through the authority and power of God and done in the name of Jesus.
So the vision of our church is to see ‘God’s Kingdom come’ which will bring transformation to us and the city city.
How do we see this happening?
Jesus said that all the commandments boiled down to two :'Love God, with all your heart, soul, mind and strength … and your neighbour as yourself.’ Matthew 19 : 19
The vision of our church is worked out in ‘Loving God, Loving People, and Loving Life.’
We want to give every man, women, boy and girl in the Wakefield area the opportunity through our services and community programme, to hear, see, and touch the King of the Kingdom. We then want to provide them with a church family to enjoy and belong to, and where they can grow in the Christian faith.
For our vision to be realised, we believe we have to respond proactively to the physical and emotional, as well as the spiritual needs of the people in our city. Jesus ministered to the whole person and we seek to be holistic in our approach and programme in serving the community.
