New Life Pre-School and Nursery Manager

 NLCC has a vacancy for an experienced Manager at its

OFSTED-rated ‘ Outstanding’ New Life Pre-School and Nursery

 

The Pre-School and Nursery is part of the work and ministry of the New Life Christian Centre. The Manager will be a member of the church ministry team, with the ensuing requirement that he or she is a committed Christian (as provided for by Part 1, Schedule 9 of The Equality Act 2010).   The Manager will both lead, and work within, the Pre-School and Nursery and requires an enhanced CRB before commencement.

 The Manager must have graduate-leader status, preferably an EYPS qualification, and proven experience of leading and managing in a pre-school and nursery setting.

 The Manager will be responsible for:

  •  outworking the vision and objectives of NLCC within the Pre-School and Nursery;
  • managing, supervising, envisioning and caring for twelve fellow early-years professionals, as well as students and volunteers, finance/administration person and a cook, in a setting licensed for 40 children (28 two to five year old and 12 under two year old).
  •  maintaining and ensuring a secure, safe and caring environment for babies/children and adults;
  • in respect of all babies/children attending the Pre-School and Nursery:
    • planning, implementing and monitoring activities to support them in achieving developmentally appropriate outcomes linked to EYFS; 
    • ensuring continued provision of high quality care and education; 
    • liaising with parents on their progress; 
    • liaising with lead professionals of other organisations to support their health and wellbeing;
  • producing official reports for, and dealing with official reports from, other relevant organisations;
  • ensuring that current policies/procedures are implemented, regularly reviewed and kept up-to-date;
  • ensuring that developments in best practise are reviewed, that the strategic direction of the Pre-School and Nursery is revised accordingly, and that new policies are created to embrace the changes required. The manager would be expected to network with early years professionals in other settings, in order to share current best practise and maintain our outstanding OFSTED rating.
  • ensuring that accurate and up-to-date records are maintained to a high standard.
  • managing and directing the Pre-School and Nursery administrator (finance), working with the NLCC Treasurer in the preparation and monitoring of annual budgets, invoices and submitting monthly reports to the NLCC Board of Directors on financial and other progress

 The starting salary will be in the order of £23,000+ dependant on experience and qualifications.

The Pre- School/Nursery Manager reports to:    Kevin Foster, Chair of the Board of Directors and is responsible for Managing the Pre-School/Nursery and its staff.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Pre School and Nursey Manager

IT IS THE PRE-SCHOOL/NURSERY MANAGER'S DUTY TO

1)     ensure a secure, safe and caring environment for babies, toddlers, children and adults in the setting.   This will include making sure that:

  • equipment is well maintained and safe to use;
  • good hygiene standards are maintained;
  • safety procedures are followed, for example, fire drill is regularly practised;
  • the arrival/departure of children is monitored;
  • the environment is checked daily for hazards;
  • the first-aid box is regularly replenished;
  • all necessary risk assessments are completed.

2)     provide high-quality care and education for under fives through:

  • maintaining a culture of reflection with a view to improving quality, whilst implementing the vast range of Government initiatives, aimed at improving educational and social outcomes for children and their families;
  • ensuring effective systems are in place for practitioners to plan and implement activities to support babies and young children in achieving developmentally appropriate activities linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage;
  • supporting practitioners in developing routines and practices which ensure that the delivered curriculum meets with the equal opportunities policy held within the setting;
  • developing and supporting the team of practitioners in embracing change as a vital aspect of everyday practice in order to continually improve outcomes for children and their families;
  • regularly reviewing and reflecting the working practices of the setting;
  • creating a culture where learning and development through reflection is recognised as part of everyday practice;
  • creating a learning community within the organisation, providing practitioners with opportunities to develop their professional and personal skills, both within the workplace and at college and university.
  • setting clear goals and objectives, providing direction for practitioners and helping them understand what is expected of them;
  • assigning relevant tasks and responsibilities that make use of individual strengths, creating a balance of roles within the team;
  • supporting practitioners in helping children through transitions;
  • managing the time and skills of both staff and volunteers in order to maximise children's learning opportunities;
  • managing the key-person system;
  • managing the assessment and record-keeping procedures, giving particular emphasis to the accuracy of all written documentation;
  • creating an atmosphere and culture which fosters happiness and contentment, whilst providing practitioners with challenges and responsibilities to increase their professional and personal development.

3)     envision, motivate, manage and supervise staff and volunteers, on a day-to-day basis.

4)     ensure accurate and up-to-date records are maintained, including:

  • daily register of attendance;
  • accident and incident book;
  • records of concerns sheets;
  • individual education plans;
  • child observations and assessment records;
  • records required by OFSTED and Wakefield Metropolitan District Council;
  • medical records of each child.

5)     liaise with parents (using e-mail where appropriate), including by means of:

  • welcome letters;
  • newsletters;
  • parental consultations;
  • the Parents Advisory Board.

6 )     liaise with, and produce official reports for, lead professionals in the support of the health and well-being of babies and  children the Pre-School/Nursery, including:

  • social workers;
  • early years leading consultant;
  • special educational needs co-coordinators;
  • specialist health visitors for substance misuse;
  • project workers from outreach services;
  • attendance at child well-being meetings;
  • attendance at in-service training and network meetings to maintain awareness of new/best practice.

7 )    develop and implement new, and maintain existing, Pre-School/Nursery policies.

8 )    outwork the vision and objectives of NLCC within the Pre-School/Nursery by:

  • being part of, and giving monthly reports to, the NLCC Ministry Management team;
  • promoting and developing the Christian ethos and its application within the setting;
  • planning four family services to be held in church (Mothers Day; Leavers; Harvest and Christmas);
  • encouraging staff, children and parents to engage with the church in other activities;
  • encouraging support, via fundraising events, of the Sunshine-New Life Centre for learning English, based in Vaslui, Romania.

9 )    ensure that the operation of the Pre-School/Nursery is soundly administered, including financially, by:

  • directing and managing the Pre-School/Nursery Finance/Administrator;
  • setting clear goals and objectives to ensure the systems necessary for the smooth running of the day-to-day practices within the Pre-School/Nursery are of the standard required;
  • monitoring closely all of the financial systems being managed by the Finance/Administrator and ensuring all necessary transactions are made and paid, and information passed monthly to the NLCC Secretary;
  • working alongside the Finance/Administrator and the Business Board of Directors to:
  • formulate and maintain a working budget for the Pre-School/Nursery;
  • market and promote the setting to ensure full take up of places available;
  • ensure that the Pre-School/Nursery computer package is managed and kept up to date.

Person Specification

Essential criteria

  • A committed Christian, who is currently attending and involved in a recognized church.
  • 3 years experience of leading and managing a pre-school and nursery setting.
  • Graduate Leader Status.
  • Sound understanding of child development, and early years theorists.
  • Ability to monitor, plan and implement activities to support children in achieving developmentally appropriate outcomes linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
  • Ability to lead and manage a team of adults which is well trained, motivated, committed and enjoys working together.
  • Commitment to equal opportunities and understanding of religious and cultural diversity.
  • Ability to produce accurate, clear and concise information in the form of reports.
  • A working knowledge and understanding of various computer programmes.
  • Good mental and physical health.
