You are invited to become a supporter of the

Sunshine English Club

in Vaslui, Romania

This is a new project in the suburbs of the town of Vaslui (population approx. 70,000) in Eastern Romania, south of Iaşi, where there is considerable poverty and deprivation.

The Sunshine Club project aims to bring education and hope, in the name of Jesus, to children and families in these economically desperate communities.

Daniela and Leonard Lupu have responded to God’s call to them to return to their home town of Vaslui in Romania and make a difference in the lives of children, young people and their families in that locality.  Inspired by God’s love for the poor and under-privileged, their vision is to open a centre for supplementary education and extra-curricular / social activities.  The aim is to provide learning resources and activities, in an environment where the love and grace of God are the driving forces, including:

  • A nursery school (8.00-mid-day, Monday to Friday) for children under 7 years whose parents cannot afford the fees for pre-school education;
  • An after-school club (1.00-4.00 p.m. Tuesday to Friday) for children 7 to 11 years for:
    • Learning English
    • Help with homework
    • Creative activities
    • Opportunities for play
  • English lessons and social activities (Saturdays) for age 12- 16 years
  • Summer holiday club

Most children do not have any out of school activities (except homework!) because of the pressure on their parents in this very economically constrained community.

How can you support the Sunshine English Club?

  • Encourage Daniela and Leo as they return to Romania to launch this ambitious project –
    •  speak with them and wish them well;
    • follow their progress on their soon to be established website;
  • Pray that Daniela and Leo will continually receive God’s wisdom and guidance, provision and protection, patience and endurance (physical and spiritual) as they embark on this “mission impossible” – for nothing is impossible with God.
  • Retain a continuing interest in this project; talk about it to other people and encourage others to become interested and involved.
  • Consider how you might be able to help in a practical way by donating…
    • Good quality children’s books – they don’t need to be in Romanian, just in good condition (not necessarily new)
    • Play equipment or games
    • Resources for school use: e.g. paper, pens, pencils, art and craft materials
    • A financial contribution.  This is entirely a self-funded project at present; Daniela and Leo would be very grateful for any financial support for the project, either as a single donation (however small) or as a regular contribution (see contact details overleaf).
  • Go to Romania and help them!

Is God calling you to go to work with Daniela and Leo in the Sunshine English Club, either in the holiday club team (for a month in summer) or in the term-time activities (for a minimum of three months)?  Assistance is needed particularly in helping children of all ages to learn through play, creativity and collaboration in a Christian and predominantly English-speaking environment.

Daniela and Leo will be returning to Romania in early September 2011.  If you wish to support the Sunshine English Club project, you will be able to receive information and offer practical support through Stuart and Marie Robinson, who will be the New Life Christian Centre link persons.
